Wave optics simulations of plane-wave propagation in non-Kolmogorov turbulence

We explore the practical limits for wave optics simulations of plane-wave propagation in non-Kolmogorov turbulence using split-step method and thin phase screens. These inform two simulation campaigns where relationship between volume strength normalized intensity variance various power laws is explored. find that power-law exponents near 3 are limited to strengths with Rytov numbers 7 when side-length sampling rate 8192. Under these same conditions, it possible simulate out 12 Kolmogorov a exponent 4. also demonstrate peak scintillation number occurs increases approximately linearly exponent. Also, if fixed, index law depends on operating regime. In weak turbulence, negative, positive strong turbulence. This work emphasizes importance properly scaling comparing results different mediums influence defining inner outer scales simulations.
